I have been thinking a lot lately about infertility (when don't I?) and why it is so hidden, not talked about, shameful, it's like an underground disease. But WHY WHY WHY???
If we talked about it more, kept it out in the open more, would more insurance companies cover treatment?
I have frequently emailed the folks in my state capital asking them to make my state a mandated state so infertility treatment will be available to more people. I have emailed President Obama also, asking him to make it mandatory in ALL STATES. I have also emailed the LiveStrong foundation asking them for advice on how I can do for infertility what they have done for cancer.
Unfortunately I always get a form letter response. But why?
Why doesn't anybody want to talk about infertility?
I do, and I will. I have a t-shirt that I wear that says "I will be a mother" and when people ask me about it I tell them.
Why doesn't infertility have a plastic bracelet so we can identify each other.
Why don't we see TV commercials for infertility drugs the way we see ads for diabetic drugs and erectile dysfunction!?
How do we get infertility out there and make it something everyone is talking about which I believe will then lead to mandatory insurance coverage.
I will not be quiet and even if it is too late for me to benefit from insurance coverage of infertility treatment, I will continue to work for others and do what I can so others don't have to suffer through the kind of journey I have been through.
Ask me about my ovaries!
